Oh acne!! It’s just story of my life. I have been suffering from acne since my teenage age and it followed me into my adult time.
Acne always had a huge effect on me especially when growing up and when my body was changing, it used to bring me down so much and the level of confidence sure wasn’t there and I just couldn’t understand why my skin wasn’t clear and without spots as everybody else’s. It feels that the society we live in these days especially is about perfection and beauty, however, it took me 15 years to realise that in fact the perfection on social media, in magazines, TV can be soooo fake and unreal.
And yeah, it’s been a long time to get to the realisation and I am not going to lie to you, I am still learning how to love myself the way I am. However, one thing I know is that we all must stop beating ourselves up and live our lives in the best possible way and just simply stop comparing ourselves with others who may not be exactly REAL.
I am still researching what impact food can have when it comes to body and skin, as simply what happens/shows on the outside of our bodies is certainly impacted by the inside. If you have read my last blog post, I have started changing my lifestyle about 4-5 years ago for a number of reasons and one of them was my struggles with acne and imperfect skin. I just genuinely said to myself that I am not going to allow acne to roll my life anymore and started looking into how ‘what I eat’ can support me in defeating it.
I have started looking into what type of food would have a good impact on my body which would also support my gut health. I have realised that by eating processed food and anything with refined sugar, I am damaging my body, but also my skin. The first thing which I have done was clearing my cupboards from all the nasties which over the years were potentially causing my acne and health issues.
When I started cooking from scratch, I really enjoyed it as I was able to see all the ingredients which were going into my food, my body, and the flavours were just insane. I then started cutting down on dairy and refined sugar altogether. At first, it was such a shock for my body as after all the years feeding it rubbish, it was shouting at me to say, ‘What are you doing to me’. Believe me growing up in Czech Republic, our cuisine is lovely but very heavy and full of things which my body didn’t necessarily agree with, but I must say my mum and dad are great cooks. They would never forgive me for not saying ?.
Now when visiting home, my parents always struggle when it comes to cooking for me, therefore I try and cook for them sometimes to show them that healthy cooking isn’t so bad after all and it can taste lovely.
The reason why I am sharing all of this with you is that if you are struggling with acne or any other health problems, then maybe it’s time to start thinking what your body really needs and start the healing process right now. It’s also ok to take it one step at the time, we are only humans and sometimes it’s not as simple to cut everything out of our diet straight away. Also, don’t get me wrong, I do have my days when I try different things, but I always go back to what makes me and my skin feel good.
Don’t let ACNE to bring you down and take it into your own hands and kick its butt. In the upcoming weeks, I will also share with you my skin routine and what helps me to reduce the acne down.
Remember one thing though ‘WE ARE WHAT WE EAT’.
